![]() Current Operating System: Linux M圜omputer 3.13.0-30-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jun 9 22:45: x86_64 Build Operating System: Linux 3.2.0-37-generic x86_64 Ubuntu What can I do to get the appropriate open source driver installed? I can tell it is taxing my system somewhat as windows open slowly and scrolling in a browser window can be slow sometimes as well. According to what I have read, this is software rendering driver. ![]() Now, when i login, the driver that is listed is a Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe(LLVM 3.4 128 bits). Did a reboot, and a ctrl-alt-F1 and was able to purge the fglrx drivers. Afterwards, I could only get the login screen, and after putting in my password, would briefly get a black screen and would kick me back to the login screen. So, I went to AMD's website, and after some reading, downloaded Catalyst 13.1(the last version that supported my card) and proceeded to install. After the install, the driver that was shown in the About this Computer window was VESA:RV620, which I am not sure is the open source driver or just a generic driver. I do, however, seem to be having some trouble with the video driver. I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 and it loaded with relatively little trouble. I have used it at work and like it a lot. I am in the process of weening everyone off of Windows xp and moving over to Linux.
